J.R on How to become a Movie Star

Becoming a movie star is one of the easiest things to achieve especially in Nigeria. Many young people today want to enjoy the glamour and bliss that comes with stardom but they don't want to pay the price, and this is why many fraudsters have decided to take advantage of innocent Nigerians who are willing to do anything to achieve their dreams but are naive.

"I remember my first movie role, I was called upon by a friend to join walk him to a movie audition and I decided to be part of the process since I was already there. The director gave me a script to read when it was my turn ( that is after waiting for almost 9hours) after reading and feeling good with myself, the director in front of over 200people told me to get out that I had no talent and i wasted his time... but today, I don't have to be on the big screens, the same director sends his actors to me from time to time for training..." -J.R

The story above is that of a Nigerian actor coach who is making millions from coaching actors across Nigeria for specific movie roles and he highlighted the following to us that if consciously followed, one would be on his way to stardom in the Nigerian movie industry.

1. Learn the Art: Many people today wake up and believe they can be movie stars just because they have "talent". If you don't learn the lingo and know what it takes to be an actor, you may star well but you won't end well and that would be disastrous to your acting career.

2. Find Your Spine: Find your strength and maximize it. Don't be a loafer in the industry, let your fans identify that one that they can always use to brag about you.

3. Apply Yourself: of course you know you cannot sit down in your sitting room and be a pro actor, you must apply yourself by looking out for where it is happening and becoming a part of it. Look out for auditions and be part of audition process, if you are rejected in one, don't give up just continue and you will find your way to the top eventually.

4. Develop Your Talent: being talented is the first step, but improving and getting better is where it becomes tacky.

5. Don't be Overambitious: J.R said "...there were many overambitious actors in the industry who would do practically anything to stay on top, but my dear time have filtered them out, only the true actors are remaining because they stood the test of time with their worth..."

6. Don't be Stereotypical: the major challenge of Nigerian actors is that they got stereotyped and in the long run, they lost relevance because no one seemed to need them again when such roles got exhausted. As a matter a fact, being stereotypical makes it difficult to differentiate between you and the person in the movies.

7. Learn to say NO: an actor that accepts every role ends up as the "dog" for every director and such a person never finds relevance beyond mediocrity. You mustn't feature in every movie, let your fans be able to identify you with class.

8. Don't Give Up: it can be very difficult from the start, but the truth is no good thing started easy, you must pay the price of patience. keep improving yourself anytime you don't scale through and audition process and before you know it, you will be dining with the bests with name on the lips of everyone and you will be celebrated as someone with worth.
