Speaking exclusively to Punch, the What A Life singer said he was performing at concerts in Nigeria and across the world when the incident happened in 2014 and razed parts of his house and studio in Ogba, Lagos.
He however had to adjust his schedule and travel back to Lagos owing to the issue.
He said: “When I lost my studio and a part of my house to fire last year, I was performing on stage in Warri. I had to cut the trip short and returned to Lagos. It was so bad that I had to live in a hotel with my family for a while. So you see, I did not only lose personal belongings and equipment, all of which ran into several millions of naira; I was temporary rendered homeless by the fire incident.”
The incident was a major point in his life to the extent that he admitted it tested his faith in God.
He explained even though the fire burnt his possessions and studio equipment, his Bible was intact.
He attributed this to the work of God saying: “No incident has ever tested my faith in God as much as that particular incident Everything got burnt inside the studio, except a copy of the Holy Bible. When such a challenge comes up, somehow you may want to pack it up and go in another direction. At a point, I was tempted to call it quits, but I didn’t.”
His last album, I See, still buzzing across major platforms the gospel singer said the success of gospel music in the country has risen in recent times.
He also talked about surviving solely based on earnings from his music.
In 2014, he performed at 113 concerts in Nigeria and around the world, a testament to the genre’s widespread popularity.
Buchi Atuonwu lost his mother, Mrs. Okechinyere Atuonwu, in 2015. She was aged 81.
He revealed this on his facebook page on November, 11, 2015. She was buried on December 11, 2015.
