Building your brand as an actor is extremely important to your success. There are countless ways to effectively build your brand as a performer. I will not write about the benefits of using social networking in your acting career for now. Showcasing your talents on YouTube is also a fantastic outlet to help you build your brand and show the world who you are!
Another great way to build your brand is “blogging.” Starting a blog is a great option to help you connect with other people including other actors and build your brand and social presence in the entertainment industry.
Blogging about your experiences as an actor can also be very helpful to others considering a career in the entertainment industry.
Benefits of Blogging as an Actor
- Blogging has allowed me to reach many amazing people all over the world. I can “blog” from anywhere in the world, and so can you! In fact, I believe that every actor should start a blog of her or his own.
- As an actor trainer and an entrepreneur, my experience (like yours) is going to be very different from anybody else’s! The lessons that you learn throughout your time while working in the entertainment industry can prove to be valuable to lots of other actors – all over the planet!
- Countless people have ideas about what it is like to pursue a career in entertainment. Some of these ideas are true, while others are far from the reality of what the life of an actor is truly like. However if you’re currently pursuing acting, YOU are actually living this crazy but awesome lifestyle! Think about all of the people that you have met while working in the entertainment industry, and all of the incredible experiences that you’ve had so far along your journey.
- The life of an actor is exciting, isn’t it? Sharing your own experience as an actor will help to paint a picture of your life and your art as an actor through the good times and the hard times.
- I regularly discover things that I like to share with my network, especially through my writing! Each and every single time that I go to an audition or book a job, for example, I learn something new about what works and what doesn’t. Sharing that information can help another actor.
An actor’s career does not come with any guarantees, and there is no “right or wrong” way to find success in this industry! There is only your way. Reading advice from other actors about their experiences can prove to be hugely valuable to you or anyone considering a career in entertainment.
Blog Often
I have heard time and time again that, “It’s too much work to keep up with blogging and social media.” If this is something that you believe to be true, you must get over that misconception today! Pursuing acting as a career certainly does not mean simply working on set all the time. A large majority of your time will be spent networking and learning about the business. Writing a blog is a perfect way to network and share the thoughts and experiences that are uniquely yours.
Once you do start blogging, plan to post to your blog often. As an actor, every single day is different, which is part of the reason that this career path is very exciting yet challenging. Your readers will start to gain an understanding of who you are through your writing, which helps to build your brand.
My writing, for example, is a collection on my experiences as an actor trainer. While Lagos may be the entertainment capital of the Nigria, actors and members of the entertainment community live all over the place! Reading about what life is like as an actor in another part of the world is equally fascinating!
